BIT Secretariat is one of the entities formed under the BIT Council. Bit Secretariat is established under the Information Technology and State Store Department. The BIT Secretariat's main function include:

 

 

 

POLICY & PLANNING GROUP

This group further segregated into specific strategic sectors of ICT development, technological niche or flagship application areas as follows:

      o       Technological Infrastructure

      o       Security and legal Infrastructure

      o       Contents and Application Packages (e-Government, e-Business and e-Brunei)

      o       Human Resource development

      o       IT Industries

      o       Regulatory

CORPORATE ALLIANCE GROUP

General Responsibility     

q

Responsible in ensuring proper representation by industry players, analysing and incorporating feedback and comments from industry and other related agencies (government, industry, NGOs, etc) at the national, regional and international level, into fine tuning and implementation of the national ICT strategic plan.

 

q Also has the main responsibility of putting into place programs and strategic frameworks to upgrade the local industry, take part in industry fora and dialogue sessions, and work closely with the various clusters (government, industry, NGOs, etc) in the development of ICT in Brunei Darussalam.

Functions and Duties

q

Monitors key global business trends and movements, particularly with regards to fast changing developments in e-technologies (e-commerce, e-government, e-society, health, etc).

 

q

Establishes and maintains strategic alliances with various ICT clusters, corporate organizations, special interest groups, profit and non-profit organizations, etc, which are beneficial to the formulation and implementation of the national ICT strategic plan.

 

q

Forms alliances in the form of MoUs, joint committees, joint ventures etc, either at national, regional and global level to enhance the development of technologies as well as facilitate opportunities on the exchange of information and activities.

 

q

Carries out tasks relating to international networking.

 

q

Formulates and implements necessary and appropriate activities and efforts establish and foster public and private sector collaboration and inducing active participation of the private sector in BIT Council’s ICT initiatives and projects.

 

q Promotes and publicizes the national ICT infrastructure, services and policy developments (promotes the BIT Council Agenda) at international and regional levels.

 

CORPORATE COMMUNICATIONS GROUP

o

This group is responsible for providing the public relation services, publicity and marketing of the activities carried out by the BIT Secretariat and BIT Council. The group is responsible for the setting up and maintenance of the websites to publish and communicate the necessary information and means to deliver the BIT Secretariat services electronically. 

 

o The group functions also include the organization of the BIT Council and Secretariat meetings, organization of ICT campaigns and seminars and issuance of publications and media releases.

 

 

FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION GROUP

The group provides the finance and administration services to the BIT Secretariat.
