Brunei Darussalam National IT Council (BIT Council)
The Brunei Darussalam National IT Council (BIT Council) was
formed with the consent of His Majesty Paduka Seri Baginda Sultan and Yang
DiPertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam. The formation was officially announced by
the Honorable Minister of Communications during 'ICT Development - A Way Forward' Seminar organized by the
Ministry Of Communication.
The formation of BIT COUNCIL is of paramount strategic important in order
to establish and provide the ICT leadership and direction at the national level.
BIT Council as the lead entity will require transparent organization structure
to enable the country to implement core and specific strategies and action plans.
The role of BIT Council will also be critical in providing the linkages
and interactions of ICT development in the public and private sectors thereby
creating synergy to move the country to the forefront of ICT development. In
this respect, the immediate tasks of BIT Council would be to integrate the
various major ICT initiatives, programs and projects currently carried out by
various government agencies and access that required participation of the
private sectors.
The function of BIT Council is to assist His Majesty's Government to
focus on wider usage of IT as a tool to move Brunei's development in the 21st
Century.
The Council is comprised of Permanent Secretaries, Senior Officers, High Level representatives from the private sector, the academia and representatives of technology sector.
